Hannah Frank and Artur Soar: an artistic dialogue between Scotland and Brazil

Artur Soar is an award winning Brazilian artist, musician and capoeirista, who spent a week in Lancaster and Morecambe in 2023 delivering art workshops both at Halton and for the Good Things Collective in Morecambe.

During this time he was inspired by the work of Glasgow artist Hannah Frank (1908-2008) and made an engraving to honour her work.

This piece of art, plus more of Artur's engravings honouring Brazilian revolutionaries, historical figures, and Indigenous people, has been touring Brazil alongside Hannah Frank's black and white, other-worldy, eerie, Art Deco drawings of long haired women, nymphs and fairies, produced from the 1920s onwards during her astonishing 75 year artistic career.

And in September 2025 this exhibition comes to Halton Mill!

Opening event MondaySeptember 8, 6.30pm. (signed prints on sale at 50 per cent web shop price).

Closing event Sunday October 5, details to be announced.
