Charlie isan English artist based in both the UK and Portugal.

He trained as a painter / printmaker in the mid 1960's and was Head of Fine Art at Liverpool Hope University.

His work is rooted in Pop Art and Surrealism especially the Exquisite Corpse, The Surrealists Game of Chance, The Chance Meeting of the Umbrella and the Sewing Machine.

Charlie said: "A strange and mysterious meeting it creates a new dialogue it is a collision of images and text, collage enables me to play with layers, .layers of time, layers of information that have no apparent connection..they are palimpsests.

"We are bombarded with information everyday images and text.

"I often collage the walls of a gallery with posters that advertise events these posters are only relevant for a short time  and often only to a small group of people they are then covered in another layer of information the information has gone...its ephemeral...

"I then hang collages on the postered walls at random the imagery on the wall becomes the work you can’t separate the posters from the collages they interact with each other creating new dialogues.

"I curate an online gallery called the Shed gallery it is a real garden shed ,exhibitions only appear on Facebook and Instagram.

"It has been running for three years featuring a wide ranging spectrum of practices.

"I have created many interventions in various cities including Kochi, Lisbon and Manchester.

Recent shows for Charlie have included the Museum of Goa, Orlando Library Gallery, Lisbon, Passé Vite gallery, Lisbon, and Kunst Gallery in Mattancherry, India.

The exhibition is available to view daily on the Mezzannine until September 6.
